Alcohol-induced deaths: NT and Australia

Download data

Notes:

  1. Alcohol-induced deaths are those deaths which are directly attributed to alcohol. Deaths which are certified as being directly attributable to alcohol are coded as the underlying cause of death (the condition which initiated the train of morbid events), for example, alcoholic liver disease.
  2. The data source has been retrieved from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website where the time series is only available back to 2016. Source: Australian Bureau of Statistics, Causes of Death, Australia.
  3. The direct age-standardisation method is used for calculating rates. For an outline of this method, go to the Australian Bureau of Statistics website.
  4. Age-standardised rates have not been calculated for the NT for years 2022 to 2024. A rate is not calculated if the total number of events in a population is fewer than 20 as the results are unreliable and not comparable to previous year’s results. Rates not provided appear as 'np' in the Australian Bureau of Statistics data. For more information, refer to Principle 3 of  ‘Appendix 1 Principles on the use of direct age-standardisation’ on the Australian Bureau of Statistics website.
